According to gamespot, Final Fantasy XV Director (Hajime Tabata) has confirmed, that the 15th installment of the series will be released in 2016. According to Tabata, the official release date won’t be announced this year, but they have decided on a date for the video game to be released.
Responding to the disappointment fans had after having their expectations let down at Gamescom, Hajime Tabata said the following:
“I understand why people are feeling that way after coming to Cologne and speaking to a lot of the media. We really do get the feeling that people are a bit worried. Certainly, one thing I would like to say to them to reassure them, is that we’ve set down the release date, we know when it is, and we’ve got a complete road map lined up, right up to launch, and we’re proceeding along that as planned.”
Tabata also added they can certainly say the release won’t be in 2017, and therefore confirming a 2016 release. During the interview, he also hinted there might be more information released at PAX Prime.
